How to check who made your iPhone screen

Samsung Display, LG Display or BOE: the answer is in a file your iPhone builds itself.

Short answer: your iPhone records a panel serial number in its diagnostic file (sysdiagnose). The first three characters are the panel code, and the code names the maker. The model name and the box do not.

Steps

  1. Trigger a sysdiagnose. Press and release both volume buttons and the side button together, briefly. Do not hold them: holding can start Emergency SOS.
  2. Wait about 10 minutes. iOS builds the file in the background.
  3. Share it. Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements > Analytics Data (View Analytics Logs on some versions), open the newest sysdiagnose_...tar.gz and share it. Full steps: how to share an iPhone sysdiagnose.
  4. Read the code. Open the file in Panelmi. It reads the file on your iPhone, nothing is uploaded, and it shows the maker and the panel code.

What the code means

Match all three characters, not only the first letter: G starts codes of both Samsung Display and LG Display. See the table of panel codes with sources and confidence for each.

This guide does not say one maker is better than another.

Can I see the screen maker in iPhone Settings?

Not that we know of. The panel code is in the diagnostic file, which is why a sysdiagnose is needed.

Is the file safe to share?

It contains device logs, so share it only with someone you trust. Panelmi reads it on your own iPhone and does not upload it.

Is one screen maker better than another?

This guide does not rank makers. Panelmi shows who made the panel and does not judge quality.
