J5V panel code: BOE

The first three characters of an iPhone panel serial number name the company that made the screen panel.

Short answer: J5V is listed as BOE. Confidence: confirmed (at least two independent sources).

What J5V means

An iPhone's diagnostic file (sysdiagnose) holds a panel serial number. Its first three characters are the panel code. Sources report that a panel starting with J5V was made by BOE. They report it for: iPhone 16 and 17 base models.

Read all three characters, not only the first letter: the letter G starts codes for both Samsung Display and LG Display panels.

How to see your code

  1. Create and share a sysdiagnose, see how to share an iPhone sysdiagnose.
  2. Open the file in Panelmi. It reads it on your iPhone and shows the maker and the code. Nothing is uploaded.

This page does not say one maker is better than another.

Is J5V Samsung, LG or BOE?

Sources list J5V as BOE. Confidence: confirmed by at least two independent sources.

Does a J5V panel mean my screen is better or worse?

This page does not rank makers. The code only names who made the panel.

Does the code tell me when the screen was made?

No. The code is only the first three characters. Panelmi also shows an approximate month decoded from the characters after it. That decode is a working assumption, so Panelmi always says "about".

My code is not on this list. What now?

Panelmi shows "maker not identified yet" for a code it does not know and lets you send the model and the three characters so the list can grow.
